Christian Andersson is a Finalist in the International Songwriting Competition

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

Our artist/publisher Christian Andersson contacted Lisnmusic this week with the fantastic news that he is a finalist in the annual International Songwritering Competition. From over 15,000 entries Christian’s song ‘The Raving World Orchestra’ was selected in the top 15 for the ‘Instrumental’ category. 3 more songs have been selected for consideration for film contracts. The winner will be selected in May and we wish Christian the very best of luck!

Unfortunately we can’t include his song here on the blog, but be sure to check out Christian Andersson’s other music on the Lisn website.

The International Songwriting Competition (ISC) is an annual song contest whose mission is to provide the opportunity for both aspiring and established songwriters to have their songs heard in a professional, international arena. Amateur and professional songwriters and musicians are invited to participate. ISC has the most prestigious panel of judges of all the songwriting and music contests in the world, offering exposure and the opportunity to have songs heard by the most influential decision-makers in the music industry.

The success adds to Christian’s impressive record in the TV and film industry, having previously sold 8 collections of ‘epic’ music to broadcasters.

“Soganic Music’s mission is to provide “soulfully organic” music to the masses. Music that waters the soul of every individual creating new positive energy that will blossom a better society. Music that embraces every element of life, people and progress.” We loved the images that created in our minds and were then blown away by the music created by main man ScholarMan. After getting the Soganic catalogue onto the Lisn website we decided to find out a little more…

What is the musical philosophy of the label?
Our philosophy is that music should be a true expression of self.  Our ultimate goal at Soganic Music is to provide music with more depth and substance than what is commonly heard. Artist Profile: Rohit Bhusan

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

In this artist profile we talk to Rohit Bhusan, a composer Mumbai with a Lisnmusic artist account. Rohit has been a producer and sound engineer for almost six years. Following extensive training on the sitar, Rohit combines contemporary and new age grooves with a backdrop of lush ambient sounds, topped with rich Eastern melodies. Working within a range of styles, he often composes tracks that are meditative and dreamy. Rohit’s cinematic cues will add excitement and zip to almost any TV, film or travel documentary.

Listen to Rohit Bhusan’s catalogue on the Lisnmusic website.

What is your musical background?
For as far as I can remember I have always been fascinated and inspired by music. I used to play drums for my school band. Then I started playing guitar and played with number of bands in India for a few years. Then about 5 years ago I started getting immersed in the Indian Classical Music world and went on to start my training in Sitar. The depth and subtlety of this ancient form of music has been and continues to be a big inspiration.

How would you describe the style(s) of music you make? Do you focus on any specific instruments in your work?
I like to project a feeling of peace and tranquility in my music. This invariably leads me to use ambient sounds and deep tones as the bed for my melodic and rhythmic modes of expression. Besides the sitar I love using woodwinds (especially bamboo flute) as they possess the tranquil quality that I seek.

Rohit Bhusan by LisnMusic

What successes have you had in the music/synchronisation industry so far?
I have done a number of TVC’s and promos here in Mumbai. Till a while back I was actively working in the industry here but i have cut down on it to work more on evolving my sound. I did a number of channel spots for Disney India.

Have you been involved in any exciting projects?
The most interesting commercial job i did was for a car commercial here in India about a year ago.

What are you goals for the future?
My focus would be on my sitar and on developing my sound, which I feel has come a long way. I have received a lot of positive feedback about my music and I hope to have my works released and available for people at large. If it instills a feeling of peace and tranquility then I’d have achieved what I’d set out for.

Artist Profile: Thomsonaudio

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Our latest profile focuses on Thomsonaudio, aka Andy Thomson, who holds an artist account with Lisnmusic. He’s also the latest member of staff to join the Lisn team and if you give the Lisn office of ring Andy’s is usually the first cheerful voice you’ll hear! Now that he’s settled in we thought it was time to shine the spotlight on Andy to find out a little more about his music background, the projects he’s worked on and his goals for the future.

“I have been playing bass in bands since 1998. I have played at venues all around the UK including Wolverhampton Civic, Manchester Academy and Leeds Metropolitan University. I have a degree in Creative Music and Sound Technology form Leeds Met Uni and before I worked for Lisn was successfully working freelance as a Sound Designer.”

“In my freelance work I have produced audio for Max Factor, Sony, Yell.com and Virgin Media. I have remixed tracks for a number of producers including the BAFTA award winning Sonke Prigge. I’ve also worked on national theatre tours as a sound designer and have worked at some of the biggest theatres in the UK as a sound designer, composer and operator – theatres include The West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds, The Everyman in Liverpool, The Lowry in Salford, and in London The Arcola and The Battersea Arts Centre.”

“One of the most exciting projects I’ve worked on has been ‘Audio Pods’ with a London-based theatre company. They are a cross between an art installation and theatre – egg shaped seats that you can sit in with full 5.1 surround speaker setup. Radio dramas play back from the speakers and put you right in the middle of the action. I did the technical specification for the pods and was the technical director on the dramas that play back.”

“With the same theatre company I have been technical director on five series of radio dramas which get played out on radio stations across the UK.”

“My goals for the future are to take a step back from my freelance work and to put all my time into Lisn, pushing the catalogue of music we have but also to really develop the bespoke side so that we can become the one stop shop for all audio requirements.”
